Photograph depicts the S.S. Robert Dunsmuir under repair at the Cates Shipyard c. 1900. The photgraph shows George Cates, his son Adrian, his father Abdrew Jackson Cates, and aa number of other unnamed men, presumably employees of Cates. The Canadian Pacific Railway Bridge can be seen in the background, THe ship inauguated the first regular service between Vancouver and Nanaimo and later earned the nickname of “Dirty Bob” because she was used to haul coal from Nanaimo. She was used to rescue people from the Vancouver fire of 1886.
